How would you predict and minimize potential risks or abuse of your work?

Engineers try their best to design and make products to improve the quality of life, but at the meantime, some products also bring some disvantages to human beings. For example, plastic bags used to be ragarded as the most important inventory in 20th century, while now they cause serious pollution problem. We can see that it is also necessary for enginneers to preidct and minimize potential risks of their work.. however, it is not that easy since risks always come out accidently.

To predict potential risks of enginneering products, we need to fully undestand the products from different aspects. There are a few questions engineers should consider before they put their products into the market, such as how to use the product, what can be done with the product, and what may be dangerous when using the product. An overall understannding is important to reduce the risks of the products, not only how to make such a product.

After recognising the potential risks or abuse, minimizing them becomes easier. Sometimes minimizing the risks and abuse of the products means also minimizing the using efficiency of the products, which may make the produsts less useful. Certainly, enginneers and bussinessmen should consider the safety first instead of the economic benefits.
